Eric Mase moved to the canoe capitol of the world, Ely , Minnesota in 1996, to build birch bark canoes. Over sixty canoes and 12 years later, he has fine tuned his building techniques and is now considered as one of the finest birch bark builders in the country. Each of his canoes are built using traditional tools and building methods of the Voyageurs and Native Americans, and are not only museum quality but also collector's pieces.
In addition to canoes, Eric also makes etched birch bark baskets, wood canvas baidarkas, snowshoes, and a variety of other Northwoods artifacts. His work can be found in the homes of collectors across the United States and Canada , and have been featured in galleries and museums across the Midwest .
Builds eight models of wood/canvas canoes from 14' to 18' using some Chestnut, E.M. White and contemporary designs. Offers classes in both wood/canvas canoe building and repair. Offers kit canoes and parts.
